DENSITY (ND) Filters: When we need to use a very small aperture value and a very slow shutter speed and these values are not available on our camera, the gray density filter is our most important helper. While these gray filters reduce the light coming to the sensor by two or four stops or even eight stops, they do not cause any change in colors. For example, you can use this filter to soften a stream photo that requires a high shutter speed (low exposure time) because there is too much light, at a low shutter speed.
